Important Information

Once a dancer has been at our school for some time and participated in a number of classes they may decide they want to take part in dance competitions around the country, with a chance to win trophies.

All dancers who take part in a competition with TEMPUS EFFECTUS will need an £10.00 A.D.F.P. Status card; which means that the pupil is registered with our school and under the A.D.F.P. (www.adfp.co.uk), and allows them to compete up and down the country.

Dancers start off as Beginners and will have to win so many times to be moved up a section. Depending on what section you are in will depend on what type of costume you have to wear at the competitions.

  • BEGINNERS (plain leotard or cat suit)
  • STARTERS (coloured costumes which contain patterned materials and fancy styles)
  • INTERMEDIATES (sequins and stoned costumes)
  • CHAMPIONSHIP (sequins and stoned costumes)

When & What?

Most competitions take place on Sunday's, and Dancers can compete in;

  • Freestyle Solo,
  • Slow Solo,
  • Freestyle Pairs,
  • Street,
  • Trios,
  • Team.

At a competition dancers aim to get recalls and then go onto dancing in the final and gaining a trophy for each section the participate in.

  • Dancers start to dance when the music starts and continue to dance their routines (which is set by the teacher; each dancer has their own personal routine) and continue until the music stops.
  • They dance anti clockwise around the dance floor, impressing the judges; who will be standing all around the room.
  • If the judges enjoy and like what they see they will write your number down.
